About this test

This test is built around the UI/UX Designer role. It covers the thinking behind good interfaces: how people use products, how to research and test, visual hierarchy and accessibility, and the working habits of designing in Figma and handing over to developers.

It is practice only and is not part of any job application.

What it covers

The question set has 24 questions: 10 easy, 14 medium and 0 hard. Each attempt draws 20 of them at random, so a second try is not the same test.

  • Figma and handoff (6)
  • UX research and usability (10)
  • Visual design and accessibility (8)

Try a few sample questions

These are real questions from the set, with the answers and a short explanation. Read the question, decide, then open it to check.

Sample 1 · UX research and usability · easyWhat is the main purpose of a usability test?Show the answer
  • To prove the design is perfect
  • To watch real people try to complete tasks and find where they struggleCorrect
  • To choose colours
  • To collect email addresses

Observing behaviour shows problems that opinions and assumptions miss.

Sample 2 · Visual design and accessibility · easyWhat is visual hierarchy?Show the answer
  • A list of colours
  • Arranging elements through size, weight, colour and spacing so the most important things are noticed firstCorrect
  • A folder structure
  • A type of grid

Hierarchy tells the eye where to look and in what order.

Sample 3 · Figma and handoff · easyWhat does auto layout in Figma do?Show the answer
  • Writes code
  • Makes frames resize and space their content automatically as it changesCorrect
  • Exports to PDF
  • Chooses colours

It behaves like flexbox, which also makes handover to developers easier.

How it works

  • 20 multiple choice questions, drawn at random from a larger set.
  • 20 minutes on the clock. The test submits itself when time runs out.
  • Pass mark: 60%.
  • No marks are taken off for wrong answers, so answer every question.
  • Some questions have more than one correct answer. You must pick all of them to score.
  • When you finish you see your score, the correct answers and a short explanation for each.
  • Your answers save as you go, so a dropped connection will not lose your work.
  • Please stay on the test page. Switching to another tab or window is recorded and you will see a warning.
  • Copying text, printing and screenshots are not allowed during the test.
