About this test

This test is built around the Business Analyst role. It covers how to find out what a client really needs and write it down so a team can build it: requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, process maps and working with stakeholders.

It is practice only and is not part of any job application.

What it covers

The question set has 24 questions: 8 easy, 16 medium and 0 hard. Each attempt draws 20 of them at random, so a second try is not the same test.

  • Elicitation and stakeholders (6)
  • Process and delivery (7)
  • Requirements (11)

Try a few sample questions

These are real questions from the set, with the answers and a short explanation. Read the question, decide, then open it to check.

Sample 1 · Requirements · easyWhat is the difference between a functional and a non-functional requirement?Show the answer
  • None
  • A functional requirement says what the system does, a non-functional one says how well it must do it, such as speed or securityCorrect
  • Non-functional requirements are optional
  • Functional requirements are only about screens

Performance, security and accessibility needs are common non-functional requirements.

Sample 2 · Elicitation and stakeholders · easyWhich of these is a requirements elicitation technique?Show the answer
  • Compiling code
  • Interviews, workshops and observing users at workCorrect
  • Load testing
  • Code review

Using more than one technique gives a fuller picture.

Sample 3 · Process and delivery · easyWhat is the difference between an as-is and a to-be process?Show the answer
  • None
  • As-is is how the process works today, to-be is how it should work after the changeCorrect
  • To-be is the past
  • As-is is the future

Comparing the two shows what the project must change.

How it works

  • 20 multiple choice questions, drawn at random from a larger set.
  • 20 minutes on the clock. The test submits itself when time runs out.
  • Pass mark: 60%.
  • No marks are taken off for wrong answers, so answer every question.
  • Some questions have more than one correct answer. You must pick all of them to score.
  • When you finish you see your score, the correct answers and a short explanation for each.
  • Your answers save as you go, so a dropped connection will not lose your work.
  • Please stay on the test page. Switching to another tab or window is recorded and you will see a warning.
  • Copying text, printing and screenshots are not allowed during the test.
